Berlin Basketball Entwicklungs Akademie provides additional coaching, FIBA 3x3 competition, and opportunities to participate in international youth leagues for ambitious young players who, due to their families’ financial circumstances, would otherwise not be able to take part.
Development opportunities should depend on potential—not family income
Berlin Basketball Entwicklungs Akademie, or BBEA, is a supplementary development program for ambitious young basketball players.
Our goal is to provide talented U14 athletes with additional high-quality coaching, international competition, official FIBA 3x3 tournament experience and participation in the Central European Youth Basketball League, while allowing every player to remain fully integrated within their home club.
For many talented young players, however, the greatest obstacle is not motivation or ability. It is the financial cost of participating.
The challenge
For the upcoming season, BBEA is building a group of approximately 10 players.
The planned program includes:
- Additional basketball development training
- Individual skill and decision-making development
- Official FIBA 3x3 tournaments
- CEYBL tournament weekends
- International games in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic
- Team uniforms and training equipment
- Travel, accommodation and tournament fees

We have contacted approximately 35 companies in search of sponsorship support. Despite considerable outreach, we have not yet secured the funding required to make the program accessible to all selected players.
At the same time, the majority of families are currently unable to afford the expenses of an international basketball season.
Without external support, some highly motivated and talented players may be unable to participate. They would lose access to important training and competition opportunities simply because their families cannot afford them.
Estimated budget for one season
The estimated budget below covers the complete season for a group of approximately 10 players.

The actual amount may vary depending on travel requirements, tournament locations and individual support needs. The equipment budget includes personal uniforms as well as shared team equipment such as basketballs and training materials.
What the funding would make possible
Reduce or cover participation costs for families with the greatest financial need
Enable players to attend CEYBL and FIBA 3x3 tournaments
Provide appropriate uniforms and training equipment
Cover transportation, accommodation and event-related expenses
Maintain regular, structured development training
Ensure that selection is based on potential and commitment, rather than family income
BBEA is not intended to replace the players’ existing clubs. It provides additional development opportunities while players continue to train and compete for their home teams.
Why this matters
International tournaments and 3x3 basketball provide young players with development opportunities that are difficult to reproduce in regular training.
Players learn to:
- Make decisions under pressure
- Take responsibility on the court
- Compete against different playing styles
- Improve their 1-on-1 offense and defense
- Develop confidence, resilience and independence
- Build friendships and connections across borders
No talented child should lose such an opportunity solely because their family cannot afford the associated expenses.
Transparency and use of funds
BBEA is committed to responsible and transparent use of all financial support.
- Expenses will be supported by invoices and receipts where required
- Individual and shared team costs will be clearly documented
- Funding awarded for a specific athlete will be used only for that athlete’s eligible share of the program
- Team-wide support will be allocated only to basketball-related program expenses
- Supporters can receive an overview of how their contribution was used

The €14,000 budget represents the estimated cost of the full 10-player program. It is not the personal cost of a single athlete.
There are many talented young players whose families cannot currently afford additional training, equipment and international tournament travel. Their potential should not be limited by their financial circumstances.
We are trying to create a development environment in which commitment, character and basketball potential determine who can participate—not the income of the player’s family.
After approaching approximately 35 potential corporate sponsors without securing the required support, we are looking for partners who believe that talented young athletes deserve the opportunity to continue developing.
